Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies, as part of its Pamoja Tunaweza (Together We Can) initiative, will invest around US$450,000 in the construction and equipment of the Complete Primary School of Senga, as well as the construction of 2 houses for teachers, in the District of Palma, Province of Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

The Complete Primary School (EPC) of Senga will have four expandable classrooms and an administrative block that includes a room for teachers and management offices.<\/p>\n

It also includes 1 library, bathrooms, a space for a school garden and a solar-powered lighting system.<\/p>\n

At the ceremony, recently held, for laying the first stone for the construction of the Senga school and the inauguration of a borehole, built with support of TotalEnergies, the Permanent Secretary of Palma district, Laurinda Luciano, stated that \u201cwater and school were an Achilles heel in this community. The absence of a proper school affected the teaching and learning process. As such, with the construction of this school in this community, the quality of teaching will improve, because studying under a tree and outdoors \u2013 as it is the case today \u2014 negatively influences the pedagogical results\u201d.<\/p>\n

In turn, Maxime Rabilloud, Country Chair of TotalEnergies in Mozambique, stated that \u201cThe Senga community is very important to the Mozambique LNG project and to TotalEnergies, also because they have contributed a lot to support the project. We are aware of this. As such, being able to help, particularly in areas as important as water and education, is a great happiness for us. We are happy, and we won\u2019t stop there. We will continue to support the Government and the community, in particular the Senga community\u201d.<\/p>\n

For Faustino Gilberto, Director at Senga EPC, the \u201cconditions are bad, particularly in in the rainy season. As soon as it starts raining, the children have to go home, affecting the teaching and learning process, because we can\u2019t keep to the schedule. The new school will have a positive impact on the quality of education\u201d, noted Gilberto.<\/p>\n

In turn, Cristina Raimundo, a Senga resident, stated: \u201cbefore we had this borehole, we had great difficulties to access water. We used to fetch water from wells along a close by water stream. However, during dry season, the difficulties were enormous. It was not possible to obtain enough water. We had to wake up at 2 am to get water.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the occasion, TotalEnergies also offered school supplies to 300 children and self-employment kits to Senga residents.<\/p>\n

From the Swahili expression that means, in English, Together We Can, Pamoja Tunaweza is an initiative of the Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies, of engagement of various community, associative, public, and private actors, with a view to contributing to the socio-economic development of the Province of Cabo Delgado, in particular, now, in Palma and Moci\u0301mboa da Praia, based on projects designed in a participatory way.<\/p>\n
