Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>One person died, this Wednesday, after being attacked by a crocodile on the banks of the Pu\u0301ngue\u0300 River, in the district of Nhamatanda, in Sofala.<\/p>\n

The incident took place in Matenga, when the 60-year-old victim was bathing in the river.<\/p>\n

The chairman of the Matenga Natural Resources Management Committee, Amad Cadeado, describes the situation as worrying, since attacks by crocodiles are increasing in recent months in the region.<\/p>\n

Amad Cadeado explains that given the insufficiency of water supply sources in the locality of Matenga, the only alternative for the inhabitants is the Pu\u0301ngue\u0300 River.<\/p>\n

At the moment, according to the official, awareness-raising actions are underway in the communities to take precautionary measures when going to the river.<\/p>\n

In addition to attacks by crocodiles, residents of Matenga are also struggling with incursions by buffalo and elephants from Gorongosa National Park.<\/p>\n
