Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The administration premises of Lhanguene cemetery, in Maputo city, are seeing floods of people arrive to \u201cregularise\u201d the status of graves there. According to those waiting, the procedure is slow.<\/p>\n

It was hoped that at least 10,000 graves would be regularised by next Wednesday, July 28.<\/p>\n

Covid-19 prevention measures, meanwhile, are not being observed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been here for days. The services were supposed to open at 07:00 a.m. but they only started operating at 9 a.m., and will certainly shut at 1.30 p.m., like they did yesterday,\u201d one person waiting told \u2018O Pa\u00eds\u2019.<\/p>\n

Another person told our reporter that the amounts to be paid to regularize graves was absurd and opportunistic.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust look at these old persons here. Where are they going to find 1,500 meticais? And most aggravating is this: just try to find out from the people here how many graves [of family members] they have in this place. Then you\u2019ll see roughly how much it will cost them. It doesn\u2019t make sense. First, they provide a bad service, then we\u2019re in a pandemic and they force us to violate the Presidential Decree because the process ends on the 28th,\u201d the man complained.<\/p>\n

Some people were irked by the lack of guidance on observing Covid-19 containment measures.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone wants to be assisted, but there\u2019s no organisation, so we\u2019re all crowded together and run the risk of contracting the virus,\u201d another person said.<\/p>\n

The cemetery administration is yet to comment on the situation.<\/p>\n

The Municipality of Maputo manages 11 cemeteries, one of which (Michafutene) is located in Matola.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
