Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Year-on-year inflation in Mozambique slowed in October for the second consecutive month to 11.83%, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The pace of price rises had been increasing since February to reach 12.96% in August, in line with the global inflationary trend, and then settled at 12.71% in September.<\/p>\n

From September to October, the year-on-year inflation rate retreated by less than one percentage point (88 basis points), but it was the first time this year that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) cooled for two consecutive months.<\/p>\n

According to data from INE, accumulated inflation this year now stands at 8.8%.<\/p>\n

This was also the first CPI bulletin in which data to calculate inflation was collected in eight points around the country.<\/p>\n

As well as Maputo, Beira and Nampula, prices of markets and shops in the cities of Quelimane, Tete, Chimoio and Xai-xai and in Inhambane province were also analysed.<\/p>\n

According to INE, transport, food and non-alcoholic beverages continued to be the goods and services that contributed most to the price rise.<\/p>\n
