Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique and Zambia have agreed in Lusaka to strengthen collaboration in combating cross-border crimes, the defence ministers of the two countries announced at the end of a meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe two countries pledge greater coordination in combating cross-border crimes such as terrorism, illegal migration, human trafficking, drugs and poaching,\u201d a statement read.<\/p>\n

The document summarises the conclusions of the 11th session of the permanent joint commission on defence and security on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

There will also be a strengthening of \u201cinformation sharing and training.<\/p>\n

Cristo\u0301va\u0303o Chume, Mozambique\u2019s defence minister, said that the defence and security forces \u201chave the task of accompanying\u201d the new dynamic of relations between the two countries, \u201censuring that the agreed programmes\u201d are \u201ccarried out in a secure environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important that Mozambique and Zambia improve their capacity to act in the face of all types of suspicious and transnational manifestations that pose a threat to the normal course of the two countries,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Zambian defence minister, Lwiji Lufuma, made a positive assessment of the meeting, which sought \u201cviable solutions to the threats that undermine the security of the two states\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mozambique shares a border with Zambia in Tete province, where arrests for illegal immigration and poaching have been frequent.<\/p>\n
