Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, on Friday, (18-11) inaugurated an 8.42 kilometres stretch of road connecting the main town of Marracuene district to the coastal village of Macaneta. The road, which cost around 462 million meticais, was financed by concessionaire Rede Via\u0301ria de Moc\u0327ambique (REVIMO).<\/p>\n

The contract included the construction of a new toll plaza to replace the current temporary one, as well as maintenance on the southern part of the bridge over the Incoma\u0301ti river, as a way of contributing to the improvement transitability and safety conditions.<\/p>\n

Minister Mesquita said the highway would facilitate the safe movement of people and goods and reduce the travel time between Macaneta and Marracuene, boosting the economies of both localities and the district in general.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are sure that the road will certainly make the products produced here \u2013 vegetables, tubers, vegetables, bananas and others \u2013 more competitive in terms of quality and price,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also have an impact on the entire chain of other economic and social activities carried out here, due to the greater ease of movement between the coast and the interior.<\/p>\n

\nThe minister also noted the value the road represents for the tourism sector, opening up new business opportunities that could transform Macaneta, with its excellent beaches and proximity to ports and airports in the region, into a benchmark tourist destination.<\/p>\n

The road, the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources observed, is built on the user-pays principle, a procedure employed to ensure the generation of resources needed to guarantee the maintenance of the infrastructure, the provision of emergency assistance to users and the construction of more roads, among other benefits.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Secretary of State for Maputo province, Vito\u0301ria Diogo, called for the cooperation of the local population and users in the payment of toll fees so as to ensure the road\u2019s maintenance and longevity.<\/p>\n

She also appealed for vigilance against the vandalism of traffic signs and other equipment, which could endanger motorists and pedestrians on the highway.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would also urge road users to observe speed limits, so that the road does not become a scene of road accidents and deaths,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

In turn, the chairman of the Board of Directors of REVIMO, Constantino Gode, stressed that the work reflects the company\u2019s mission, which consists of investing and participating in the management of infrastructures, products and integrated services, contributing to the creation of value and development sustainable development of sites connected by the road network under its management.<\/p>\n

Now that the road has been completed and inaugurated, he added, the biggest challenge ahead was to follow up on actions aimed at capitalising on the range of opportunities that result from this infrastructure.<\/p>\n
