Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>More than 30 of Maputo city\u2019s streets and avenues are in an advanced state of degradation, councillor for land use planning, urbanisation and the environment on Maputo Municipal Council Silva Magaia admitted on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

But there is a plan for the periodic rehabilitation of, among others, Xiquelene-Pra\u00e7a da Juventude on Avenida Julius Nyerere, and the Avenida da ONU next to the Ka Tembe access bridge.<\/p>\n

\u201cFilling potholes is not a technically viable solution. As you can see, we fill the hole and two or three months later we have to go fill the same hole. This is not because the job is not being done well, it is because we are using a palliative solution. The solution is maintenance that happens cyclically, at least every five years, in which we change [the stretch] completely, do the resealing. Instead of filling in hole by hole, we lay a continuous mat on the road. We are going to do some this year, and then we will have the opportunity to compare and witness the difference between filling holes and resealing,\u201d Councillor Magaia said.<\/p>\n

Magaia was speaking this Wednesday (July 21) at the inauguration of Rua de S\u00e3o Paulo in Bairro 25 de Junho, a ceremony directed by Mayor Eneas Comiche, who also called for the conservation of infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation of Rua de S\u00e3o Paulo, between Avenida de Mo\u00e7ambique and Rua da Paz, cost more than 27 million meticais [US$424,461 at current exchange rates].<\/p>\n
