Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government has declared that it cannot abstain from industrialization, which is one of the priorities chosen by the African Union as a major pillar for stimulating the economy and developing the continent.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno, reiterated this position in Niamey, capital of Niger, where an extraordinary summit of heads of state and government of the African Union on Industrialisation and Economic Diversification is due to begin on Friday.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Mozambican journalists covering the meeting, Moreno recalled that President Filipe Nyusi \u201claunched the programme to industrialise the country, and our coming here is part of that process.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlongside other African countries, we want to follow the pace of development of industry\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

There had been lengthy preparations for the summit, he added. \u201cThe work is going well, we have consensus about the themes covered, declarations to be presented at the summit have been adopted, and the meeting of the Executive Council, which is the meeting of Foreign Ministers, took place today (Wednesday)\u201d, said Moreno.<\/p>\n

The summit seeks to renew the commitment of Africa to industrialization, as a pillar driving the structural transformation of the continent, built around use of the rich natural resources of the continent.<\/p>\n

The African Union considers industrialisation as one of the central factors for achieving economic growth, being in mind Agenda 2063 for the region, and the United Nations\u2019 Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane, representing President Filipe Nyusi, will head the Mozambican delegation.<\/p>\n
