Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s publicly-owned electricity company, EDM, on Friday announced a new record in connections to the national grid.<\/p>\n

An EDM release said that, in a period of 11 months, its teams had made more than 300,000 new connections to the grid, which was 94 per cent of the target for 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the result of the effort EDM is making to expand the national electricity grid, to simplify hiring procedures, and to reduce the waiting time for new connections, under the government\u2019s \u201cElectricity for All\u201d initiative, which seeks to achieve universal access to electricity by 2030\u201d, said the release.<\/p>\n

For the massive expansion of connections in 2022. EDM mobilised about 343 million US dollars. Procurement is under way to hire suppliers, consultants and contractors to implement expansion of the grid. EDM pledges that, in all procurement, it will \u201cstrictly observe the Corporate Governance policy, optimizing the good practices of integrity, transparency and accountability\u201d.<\/p>\n

Next year, EDM expects to add a further 320,000 new connections.<\/p>\n

The release adds that EDM is modernizing its services to attend to the public, so as to respond to the growth in the number of consumers, and guarantee client satisfaction.<\/p>\n
