Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican dancer and choreographer, Atana\u0301sio Nyusi, died today in Maputo, \u2018Noti\u0301cias Online\u2019 has learned from a family source.<\/p>\n

Atana\u0301sio excelled as a dancer at the National Company of Canto and Dance (CND), of which he was a founding member.<\/p>\n

Former director of the Companhia Nacional de Canto e Danc\u0327a (CNCD) David Abi\u0301lio told Noti\u0301cias Online that the death of the dancer and choreographer represents a great loss of \u201ccultural heritage\u201d.<\/p>\n

Visibly shocked, Abilio said that Nyusi was mourned not only by the dance community, but also by the research and anthropology fields.<\/p>\n

\u201cAtana\u0301sio Nyusi passes away having assembled a rich collection of information not only about dance, but about Mozambican culture as a whole. He created the research area at the CNCD and trained hundreds of dancers. Not only that \u2013 he taught dance and dance technique, having benefited from a solid training in South Africa,\u201d Abilio said.<\/p>\n

A friend of Nyusi\u2019s at the Companhia de Canto e Danc\u0327a since the early 1980s, Abi\u0301lio said he was \u201cdeeply saddened and hurt by the departure of a great patriot, who left a great legacy for the country\u201d.<\/p>\n
