Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Democratic Movement of Mozambique could consider forming a coalition with Mozambique\u2019s largest opposition party, Renamo, and other political formations to \u201ctackle\u201d the 2023 municipal elections and the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n

Last Tuesday (11.22), a group of extra-parliamentary political parties met with the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo) to draw up strategies for a coalition to confront the ruling party, the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson for that meeting, Albino Forquilha, said that a coalition was viable, but that it was premature to make any announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will have to see about, let\u2019s say, aspects having to do with the fundamental objective. A coalition is just an intermediate objective,\u201d Forquilha said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe final objective is to bring about an electoral victory, but a victory that aims at social justice governance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) was not invited to the meeting, but has already pronounced itself open to dialogue regarding a coalition in the 2023 municipal and 2024 presidential elections.<\/p>\n

MDM party president Luthero Simango said this Friday (25-11) that any discussion with Renamo about a possible coalition could have only one of two answers: yes or no.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are open, because I still don\u2019t have the terms of reference. What I said, and repeat here, is that we are open to a frank, open, honest and objective discussion. Our objective is to work towards Mozambique having democratic alternation,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Simango also advanced that giving up his candidacy to make way for someone else would depend on in-depth discussion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we are going to discuss coalitions, it is not to discuss positions. It is to discuss strategies, discuss the main objective of this coalition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Simango\u2019s position was laid out last Friday at a press conference called by the MDM to discuss matters that the party believes \u201cail\u201d the country.<\/p>\n

Single Salary Table<\/b><\/p>\n

One of these issues is the Single Salary Table (TSU), which is generating threats of strike action in some state sectors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government must talk with all those who believe that injustice has been done. I have seen that there are meetings with doctors, although there is a lot of noise about it. I hope, next week, I will have precise information to be able to position myself,\u201d Simango said.<\/p>\n
