Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>On Tuesday evening, Minister of Health Armindo Tiago asked all doctors on strike in the country to go back to work as soon as possible, so as to respond to the health interests of all Mozambicans.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the end of a Council of Ministers session, Minister Tiago reiterated that the government remained available for talks around solving the profession\u2019s problems, explaining that \u201cthe Government\u2019s actions were taken in the context of the limitations that the state budget imposes and the need to see that consideration is the same for health workers and all other state employees\u201d.<\/p>\n

Doctors from the Metropolitan Region of Greater Maputo and the city of Beira were keenest to join the strike. In Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Zambe\u0301zia, health services were functioning normally, the minister said.<\/p>\n

The strike, which began at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, was called by the Medical Association of Mozambique and will last for 21 days, which can be extended. At issue are dissatisfactions arising from the new government Single Salary Table (TSU) pay scale.<\/p>\n
