Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The European Union (EU) and the Government of Mozambique on Tuesday launched a \u20ac812 million initiative to support the education and emancipation of young Mozambicans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very happy that it is an initiative for young people,\u201d said Antonino Maggiore, ambassador of the European Union in Mozambique. After all, these \u201care the factors of innovation\u201d in the country and \u201ctheir empowerment is a priority for us\u201d.<\/p>\n

The diplomat was speaking in Maputo during the launch of the initiative, implemented by Team Europe.<\/p>\n

The \u2018e-Juventude\u2019 [e-Youth] initiative aims to help young Mozambicans \u201creach their full potential\u201d so that they are leaders in the \u201csocio-economic transformation of the country\u201d, through a strategy based on \u201cthe three Es: Education, Employment and Empowerment\u201d.<\/p>\n

The program covers the whole country, focusing on the provinces of Maputo, Cabo Delgado, Sofala, Nampula and Inhambane, and aims to invest in professional training, employment, self-employment and the sexual and reproductive health of young people in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

In addition to e-Juventude, Team Europe also launched the \u2018Pacto Verde para Moc\u0327ambique\u2019 [Green Pact for Mozambique] initiative, which will, among other things, support the Mozambican government in protecting and restoring the country\u2019s natural heritage.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Green Pact for Mozambique\u2019 is valued at \u20ac1.4 million, the EU says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are joint projects for the future\u201d and a \u201ccommitment we have with future generations\u201d, the EU ambassador in Mozambique declared.<\/p>\n

Mozambique\u2019s Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Land and Environment, Emi\u0301lia Fumo, thanked the EU for the initiatives and said that its \u201cdoors are open\u201d for the exchange of experiences.<\/p>\n

Team Europe comprises the European Union, EU member states and their diplomatic services, financial institutions and implementing bodies, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.<\/p>\n
