Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Alleged \u2018superstitious action\u2019 is hindering the asphalting of the main street in the district headquarters village of Chiu\u0301re, Cabo Delgado province, which was scheduled for completion in late November, Radio Mozambique reports.<\/p>\n

The street, about one-and-a half kilometres in length, starts at the Kopwata market, passes through the commercial area and by the district administration and hospital before joining National Road Number One, where there is a bank branch.<\/p>\n

The adviser to the Chiu\u0301re mayor, a Renamo supporter, told journalists at the weekend that the road-laying equipment kept breaking down without a plausible reason and in a strange fashion.<\/p>\n

Bernardo Caixote says that the machines even break down routinely in the same place, reinforcing the notion of some magical causation.<\/p>\n

The advisor to Alikora Ntuntunya says that the managers of Chiu\u0301re municipality are African, and therefore will not stand idly by in the face of such a situation.<\/p>\n

Without suggesting who could really be behind the problem, Caixote notes that traditional local leaders were not involved in the start of the works.<\/p>\n

Currently, the works, valued at just over 28 million meticais, are at a standstill, but it is expected that they could resume at any time.<\/p>\n

The street has two lanes, one of which has been laid with stone chippings prior to asphalting.<\/p>\n
