Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Business operators affiliated to the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM) demanded in Maputo this Tuesday (06-12) that the government lower the rates and taxes in force in the country, adding that it even considers some of them illegal.<\/p>\n

During a meeting organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique to discuss the policies on the fees and taxes which the government levies on businesses, the president of the body\u2019s Labour Division, Anto\u0301nio Sousa, considered the amounts charged unsustainable because they harm the business class.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is happening at the moment is that, often, these fee limit the profit margins of companies and the business sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In turn, the president of the CCM, A\u0301lvaro Massingue, said that some fees charged by the government are illegal, since not all of them were approved by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome rates were not observed, and the municipalities are introducing them to meet their treasury needs. But this should not happen, because it harms the productive sector,\u201d Massingue argued.<\/p>\n

The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique also pointed out that informal entrepreneurs are increasingly averse to formalizing their businesses because of the high fees that the government charges small and medium-sized companies (SMEs).<\/p>\n
