Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The 4th German-African Business Summit, held in Sandton, Johannesburg from 6 to 8 December, brought together around 500 leading German and African representatives from business and politics.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the panel on \u2018Raw Materials & Mining in Africa and Opportunities for Germany\u2019, Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, made reference to the various resources and projects available in Mozambique, reiterating the importance of cooperation partners for their viability.<\/p>\n

\u201cGermany has, since the beginning of [Mozambique\u2019s] independence, played a crucial role in the implementation of strategic projects contributing to the development of different sectors in Mozambique, as well as in the training of Mozambican staff, so we intend to continue with its support,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n

Carlos Zacarias considers the support of Germany crucial to projects aimed at increasing Mozambique\u2019s geological knowledge, inviting the businesspeople on the panel to invest in projects for the development of non-metallic minerals for use in local industry, through efficient, safe and environmentally friendly technology.<\/p>\n

One of the areas of focus is the use of natural gas in the domestic market for the production of fertilisers, liquid fuels and power generation.<\/p>\n

Minister Zacarias also made reference to the 1,500 MW Mphanda Nkuwa hydroelectric project, the 360 km, 400 KV Alto Molocue-Nacala transmission line, and solar and wind power projects.<\/p>\n

The panel was moderated by Lothar Freischlader, German Ambassador to Mozambique. Participants included Julien Paluku Kahongya, Minister of Industry of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Melanie Muller; Sokwani Chilembo, CEO of the Chamber of Mines Zambia and president of the Mining Industry Association of Southern Africa (MIASA); Geert Klok, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of Mines of Mozambique (CMM); and Tim Langenbach, Vice President, KFW-IPEX.<\/p>\n
