Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>1. The 32nd Political Dialogue between the Government of the Republic of Mozambique and the European Union, was held in Maputo on the 5th of December 2022, under the theme \u201cMozambique and the European Union: A Solid and Mutual Respect Partnership\u201d. The session was co-chaired by H.E. Vero\u0301nica Nataniel Macamo Dlhovo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique and H.E. Antonino Maggiore, Ambassador of the European Union to Mozambique.<\/p>\n

2.The dialogue session was also attended by senior officials of the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, representing various ministries, and the Ambassadors and Charge\u0301s d\u2019Affaires of the 11 Member States of the European Union accredited in Mozambique, namely, Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. The EU and Mozambican delegations praised the organization 32nd Dialogue, reviewing the progress made since the 31st session held in June 2022, and reaffirming the strategic partnership, based on shared values and common interests.<\/p>\n

3.The dialogue happened in a constructive atmosphere and addressed important issues of the bilateral relationship: (i) the situation in Cabo Delgado Province; (ii) Mozambique \u0301s 2023-2024 electoral cycle; (iii) the security situation in Europe; (iv) European Union \u2013 Mozambique development cooperation; and (v) aspects related to Mozambique\u2019s inclusion in the global list of countries with insufficient measures to prevent money laundering and financing of terrorism.<\/p>\n

4.The Government of the Republic of Mozambique and the European Union have recognized the seriousness of the war in Ukraine and its global consequences, and have agreed on the need to respect the rules-based international order under the Charter of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

5.The Government of Mozambique and the European Union reaffirmed their commitment to a deep partnership, highlighting:<\/p>\n

** The strengthening of political dialogue in the face of Mozambique being a non-permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council.<\/p>\n

** The deepening of economic partnership, taking advantage of the opportunities presented under the Global Gateway and in preparation of the Mozambique \u2013 European Union Business Forum, planned for 2023.<\/p>\n

** Support for democratic consolidation in Mozambique in the context of the next electoral cycle and the need to materialize the recommendations made by the European Union Election Observation Mission after the 2019 elections and respect for civic space.<\/p>\n

** Greater action in the gender and youth sectors, in alignment with the priorities of the European Union Multi-Annual Cooperation Programme in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

** The strengthening of the European Union\u2019s integrated approach in Cabo Delgado and the whole north region (humanitarian assistance, security and peace building and development).<\/p>\n

6. The dialogue also covered regional aspects, including the European Union\u2019s renewed commitment to supporting the Government of Mozambique in the fight against terrorism through assistance to the SADC Mission (SAMIM) and the European Council\u2019s decision, announced on 1 December, to make 20 million euros available to support the Rwandan Defence Force (RDF) in the province of Cabo Delgado. The dialogue welcomed the work of the EU Military Training Mission (EUTM Mozambique) and the assistance provided to the country in the context of the European Peace Facility, of which Mozambique is the largest beneficiary in Africa.<\/p>\n

7. As closing remarks, the delegations of Mozambique and the European Union reaffirmed their deep friendship, welcomed the regularity of the political and sectoral dialogues and the political will and mutual understanding on common priorities and agendas.<\/p>\n
