Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Assembly of the Republic today approved, in general terms, the proposal for a Law on National Defence and on the Armed Defence Forces of Mozambique to legalise the involvement of the \u2018Local Force\u2019 in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

Parliament also approved, by general consensus, a proposal to revise the legal framework for the election of office bearers in local authorities, reducing the period for application from 120 to 60 days.<\/p>\n

According to the government, this change will contribute to obtaining seat numbers for each Municipal Assembly, and will allow competitors to see a copy of the registration book, 30 days before the date of the elections.<\/p>\n

The amendment will also, from the executive\u2019s point of view, harmonise with previously approved rules on voter registration.<\/p>\n
