Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Municipal Council of Quelimane last Friday dubbed musician and poet Stewart Sukuma an Honorary Citizen of the City of Quelimane. According to a press release, Quelimane mayor Manuel de Arau\u0301jo recognized the role of Stewart Sukuma in the promotion, appreciation and preservation of the history and culture of the city of Quelimane and the \u201cQuelimanenses\u201d.<\/p>\n

The distinction is intended to honour an artist who spent a significant part of his adolescence in the city of Quelimane, where he came to define himself as a citizen and artist, influenced and inspired by the tradition and identity of the Zambezian people and, above all, by the energy of the city.<\/p>\n

For Mayor Arau\u0301jo, Stewart Sukuma never left Quelimane, and his connection with the place is reflected in his music and in his poetry, eternalized in his book \u2018O Alfaiate e a Arte de Costurar o Amor\u2019 [\u2018The Tailor and the Art of Sewing Love\u2019], recently released in both Portugal and Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Arau\u0301jo notes that Stewart Sukuma is not just an artistic reference point, but an active citizen, continually engaged in building a better country. In his intervention, Stewart Sukuma thanked Mayor Manuel de Arau\u0301jo, recalling that \u201cthe places, people and smells that I discovered up until I was 14 are still alive within me, and carry a lot of meaning.<\/p>\n

This recognition renews and elevates the love I have always felt for the land\u201d. The Municipal Council of Quelimane also awarded Sukuma a Certificate of Recognition for his 40-year-long career.<\/p>\n

\u2018O Alfaiate e a Arte de Costurar o Amor\u2019 was presented on the occasion by Jorge Ferra\u0303o, rector of the Pedagogical University of Maputo.<\/p>\n
