Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi has made it known that it will not be possible to pay the customary \u201913th month salary\u2019 [New Year bonus] to state employees and agents this year.<\/p>\n

At issue are, according to Nyusi, the high expenses arising from the implementation of the new single salary table )TSU), and retroactive payments, which had an enormous weight in the state budget.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe salary reform referred to above is having a huge impact on public accounts, representing a great weight on the State Budget (….), and a huge challenge for its balanced management. In these last two months, in addition to substantially higher payroll payments, the state also made retroactive payments for the months of July, August and September,\u201d the president explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe financial effort associated with the Single Salary Table is gigantic,\u201d Nyusi said. \u201cMy government would like to offer better social conditions to all employees and agents of the state. This goodwill was proven with the adoption of the Single Salary Table. Willingness, however, is not enough. There must be conditions for a robust economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven this overload and the need to meet pressing national imperatives, which include stabilisation efforts in northern Mozambique,, we regret to announce that this year we are unable to award the bonus of the 13th salary to public employees,\u201d President Nyusi announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis practice is not new and has already been applied when the conditions did not allow the payment to be made,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the same c straightforwardness with which we announced this containment measure, we also want to announce that we are making every effort to make it possible to pay the 13th salary to pensioners, given the vulnerability of this social group,\u201d the president concluded.<\/p>\n
