Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The publicly-owned Mozambican electricity company, EDM, has announced that, as from Thursday, the Chinga administrative post, in Murrupula district, in the northern province of Nampula, has been connected to the national electricity grid.<\/p>\n

According to an EDM release, extending the grid to Chinga cost 82.3 million meticais (about 1.3 million US dollars, at the current exchange rate) financed entirely out of the Mozambican state budget.<\/p>\n

32 kilometres of 33 kv medium voltage power line was built from the Cazuzu locality to Chinga. A network of ten kilometres of low voltage lines will now be installed and five transformer posts. EDM says that will allow the connection of 500 consumers in the initial phase. There will also be 150 lampposts for public lighting.<\/p>\n

With the electrification of Chinga, 52 of the 70 administrative posts in Nampula are now electrified. This year 12 administrative posts were electrified: nine were connected to the national grid, while the other three receive power from isolated systems.<\/p>\n

EDM says that, under the programme to electrify administrative posts, this year 291 kilometres of medium voltage power lines have been installed, and 110 kilometres of low tension lines. 54 transformer posts were installed.<\/p>\n
