Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>In a major breakthrough, customs officials at Delhi\u2019s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport apprehended a Republic of Mozambique national who attempted to smuggle narcotics into the country by swallowing 36 capsules of heroin worth Rs 2.8 crore.<\/p>\n

The accused had arrived at IGI Airport\u2019s Terminal-3 on July 16 in a flight from Johannesburg to Delhi via Doha. The Mozambique national was intercepted by customs officials after he had crossed the green channel and was approaching the exit gate of International Arrivals hall.<\/p>\n

On detailed personal and baggage search and questioning, the man admitted to having swallowed 36 plastic tape-wrapped capsules containing off-white-coloured powder\/granules of heroin. The ingested heroin capsules were recovered from the passenger.<\/p>\n

When the recovered substance was subjected to the drug detection kit, prima facie it appeared to contain heroin. The recovered heroin weighs approximately 400 grams and is estimated to be valued at Rs 2.8 crore.<\/p>\n

The narcotics were seized under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985 and Customs Act, 1962 and the Mozambique national has been placed under arrest under Section 43(b) of NDPS Act, 1985, read with Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.<\/p>\n
