Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s Esta\u0301dio da Machava, formerly Esta\u0301dio Salazar, features in the history of the Brazilian soccer legend Pele\u0301 and his home club Santos.<\/p>\n

It was in 1969, a year after the inauguration (June 1968) of the Stadium, that the Santos team visited Maputo (then Lourenc\u0327o Marques) and the Infulene Valley for a friendly match with FK Austria Wien, still part of the Stadium\u2019s festivities.<\/p>\n

The match took place on February 1st, before an audience of around 20,000 people and was a 2 to zero with Santos winning, with goals by Lima and Toninho.<\/p>\n

Pele\u0301 played in the match.<\/p>\n

The Santos team stayed in Hotel Cardoso.<\/p>\n

Goals: Lima and Toninho.<\/p>\n

Brazilian football great Pele, whose full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was laid to rest this Tuesday in Santos, after his death last week at the age of 82.<\/p>\n
