Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government has decided to cut the salaries of senior state officials as part of the implementation of the Single Wage Table (TSU) for the public administration.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, after the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers (Cabinet), the Deputy Minister of State Administration, Inocencio Impissa, said that the commission dealing with the TSU has 15 days to present a final proposal to the government.<\/p>\n

He said that the Commission had already suggested reducing the wages of top officials, and the government has accepted this. He did not, however, say by how much the salaries of senior officials (starting with the President of the Republic) will be cut.<\/p>\n

One thing that is certain is that the elected members of the Provincial Assemblies will not be paid a monthly salary. Instead, they will be paid for each session of the Assembly that they attend. Since a Provincial Assembly should only meet four times a year, the members will only be paid four times a year (unless extraordinary sessions of the Assembly are called).<\/p>\n

Impissa said that the purpose of the changes is to reduce the wage discrepancies between the various levels of state employees \u2013 particularly between the highest levels of the public administration and those ranking below them.<\/p>\n

Among those who will be affected by the cuts in salaries will be the President of the Republic, deputies of the Mozambican parliament, the Assembly of the Republic, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Provincial Governors, Secretaries of State, Mayors of municipalities, and senior judges.<\/p>\n
