Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) has confirmed that there is a case of drug trafficking through the Port of Macuse, but says there is no certainty concerning the involvement of a deputy of the Assembly of the Republic (AR) in the crime, Noti\u0301cias reports.<\/p>\n

Zambezia provincial Sernic director Domingas Chicuate said that the drug trafficking, involving a teacher and a naval commander, now detained, took place in November last year, but there is still no evidence of involvement of an AR deputy.<\/p>\n

Chicuate was speaking a few days ago in Quelimane, during a meeting between Sernic personnel and Secretary of State Judith Mussa\u0301cula on the occasion of the institution\u2019s sixth anniversary celebrations.<\/p>\n

Chicuate specified that, during the [police] operations, 110 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 102 kilograms of morphine, 14 kilograms of hashish, 0.5 kilograms of heroin and 5150 grams of methamphetamine were seized.<\/p>\n

Twenty-six people were arrested in association with the seizures, and the cases were referred to the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office for legal recourse.<\/p>\n

Chicuate also noted that criminal cases in 2022 had culminated in 87 arrests.<\/p>\n

Figures indicate that 2,007 criminal cases were registered at provincial level during 2022, against 2,506 in the previous year, a reduction of 499 cases.<\/p>\n

Chicuate clarified that 1,286 of the proceedings are against known people, and 751 against unknown persons, all having been referred to the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Chicuate said that the corporation would continue to consolidate its plan for complying with the deadline in the investigative phase of the cases (instruc\u0327a\u0303o preparato\u0301ria], and would focus on the prevention and investigation of cases related to organized crime.<\/p>\n

In reply, Secretary of State Mussa\u0301cula urged Sernic to focus on the prevention and clarification of crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, crimes against life, illegal immigration, money laundering and kidnapping.<\/p>\n
