Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The rain falling right across Nampula province continues to have a negative impact on the lives of residents and the economy of that part of northern Mozambique, with both public and private property destroyed.<\/p>\n

By way of illustration, both Mogincual and Liupo districts are without land communication following the destruction of a spillway on the main road that connects these two coastal territories, the main cause of which were the heavy rains experienced in the last few days.<\/p>\n

According to a note from the National Roads Administration (ANE) in Nampula, cyclonic events in 2022 were also among the causes of the spillway\u2019s collapse.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nampula Provincial delegation of ANE informs that, due to the occurrence of severe weather events in the previous and present rainy seasons in the Mogincual basin, there was a weakening and collapse of a spillway and a pontoon located near [milestones] Km 18 and Km 27 on the R689 road (Liupo-Quixaxe direction) in the districts of Liupo and Mogincual, respectively,\u201d the ANE note details.<\/p>\n

Work to repair the damage will begin on Tuesday (17-01) and is expected to be completed within 60 days.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the execution of the works and for the safety of users, at Km 18, vehicle traffic will proceed via a detour to be built on site and duly signposted,\u201d the statement explains. \u201cAt Km 27, the circulation of all types of vehicles will be prohibited, and will only be possible via Liupo-Namige and Namige-Quixaxe (and vice versa), a total distance of 110 km.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ANE ends its communique\u0301 by recommending that everyone undertaking the transport of passengers and goods during the rainy period strictly observe all precautionary measures, as poor visibility is common, especially in flooded areas and close to drainage structures.<\/p>\n
