Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The entry into circulation of articulated vehicles in the Greater Maputo region will probably take about nine months, according to Metropolitan Transport Agency (AMT) chairman Anto\u0301nio Matos.<\/p>\n

Matos explained that only the award process will have been completed by April, not the introduction of the vehicles themselves, contrary to what has been reported by some national newspapers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware that this process will eventually take about nine months. It could be sooner, but that depends on flexibility and we don\u2019t know the proposals yet,\u201d he said. \u201cAt best, the bureaucratic process can only be finished by April.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another no less important aspect is that the tender, which was launched in December, has been extended for another 30 days, because \u201cthe bidders we received all asked for an extension of the deadline, so we extended it to February 16th\u201d.<\/p>\n

In turn, the technical administrator of the AMT, Armando Bembele, drew attention to the time it takes to manufacture the vehicles themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother thing is that the vehicle market operates based on orders, so manufacturing only begins after the adjudication [of the tender],\u201d Bembele observed.<\/p>\n

Concerning the \u2018Intelligent Transport System\u2019 launched last August in partnership with the South Korean government, Matos said that the first phase will have been implemented by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be implemented by the end of 2024. The project is designed, and now we are talking with the South Korean government about financing,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
