Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government is optimistic about a \u201chappy ending\u201d to the ongoing negotiations to obtain funding from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the rehabilitation of National Highway Number One (EN1), Mozambique\u2019s longest and most important highway.<\/p>\n

According to the Mozambican Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonc\u0327alves, quoted by the newspaper Noticias, the rehabilitation of the N1 is a major concern for the government, and an issue currently being discussed with UAE authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rehabilitation of the EN1 to allow a better movement of people and goods is of concern to the government. This is an area in which the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources is working,\u201d the Deputy Foreign Minister explained.<\/p>\n

The two governments \u201care discussing ways to source the money to be invested in the highway, whose preliminary amounts are budgeted at US$750 million,\u201d the Deputy Minister added. Besides restoring the roadway itself, a critical issue in certain sections, particularly in the rainy season, the project includes the construction of toll stations, he stressed<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation of the EN1 is one of the points on the agenda that President Filipe Nyusi took on his working visit to the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of his counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.<\/p>\n

In Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, Filipe Nyusi has also participated in the opening ceremony of Sustainability Week, an international business event on the promotion of clean energies, annually bringing together around 4,000 dignitaries from all over the world.<\/p>\n
