Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A malfunction has been affecting the supply of electricity to 15,000 people in Quelimane, in central Mozambique, since Tuesday, the public electricity company has announced.<\/p>\n

The \u201cinterruption in the power supply\u201d affected neighbourhoods in the provincial capital of Zambezia, \u201cdue to a malfunction in the electrical substation\u201d in the city, Electricidade de Moc\u0327ambique (EDM) explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result, 15,000 customers are without power,\u201d at a time when \u201cEDM technical teams are on the ground\u201d to resolve the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a first phase, the supply of electricity will be [resumed] with restrictions,\u201d EDM concludes.<\/p>\n

Domingo repotts that the neighbourhoods affected are Incidua, Contamina, Torrone novo and Torrone velho. EDM currently has the goal of achieving universal access to energy in the country by 2030.<\/p>\n

According to the latest figures, by the end of November, 2022, the company had installed more than 300,000 new electrical connections in 11 months, a milestone in its 45-year history.<\/p>\n

EDM announced at the end of last year that the Mozambican government had already mobilized around US$343 million to \u201ccontinue to guarantee the roll-out of new electrical connections\u201d.<\/p>\n
