Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s publicly owned electricity company, EDM, has 343 million dollars available for new connections in the 2023-2025 period.<\/p>\n

According to a document from the EDM Electrification and Projects Directorate, these resources will be used to ensure the continuity of the second phase of the plan for mass access to electricity.<\/p>\n

\u201cProcurement is currently underway to hire suppliers of various materials, including contractors for installation and consultants to supervise the work\u201d, the document reads.<\/p>\n

In terms of expanding access to the grid, according to the statement, there are two main projects in the country: one to electrify 135 headquarters of administrative posts, and another to set up new connections across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, over 320,000 families had access to power within the framework of the company\u2019s efforts to simplify contracting processes to reduce the waiting time for new connections, as part of the programme for universal access to electricity by 2030\u201d, the document says.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, Nampula Province benefited the most from new connections, with about 61,535 new customers\u201d, it adds.<\/p>\n

The Economic and Social Plan and State Budget for this year provides for two billion meticais (31.3 million dollars, at the current exchange rate) to electrify 22 administrative posts, which will be provided by the National Electrical Network (REN) and autonomous production systems, with an emphasis on renewable energy.<\/p>\n
