Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with the Republic of Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Vero\u0301nica Macamo to discuss Mozambique\u2019s historic first term on the United Nations Security Council. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her appreciation for Mozambique\u2019s emphasis on issues of peace and security.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Minister Macamo discussed the strong strategic partnership between the United States and Mozambique, which has contributed to regional economic prosperity, health security, and stability. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reiterated the U.S. commitment to proactively work with Mozambique to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change, including through her work earlier in the day planting mangrove seedlings and picking up trash alongside Mozambican environmental activists.<\/p>\n

Volunteered alongside environmental groups at the last coastal mangrove forest in urban Maputo.<\/p>\n

These mangroves help protect against tropical storms, rising sea levels, and erosion. They are crucial to mitigating the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n
