Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The head of TotalEnergies is due to announce on site the details of the forthcoming resumption of work on its two liquefaction trains in the Cabo Delgado gas province, Africa Intelligence reports.<\/p>\n

The French major TotalEnergies is rallying in Mozambique. Its CEO Patrick Pouyanne\u0301 is due to visit the country in the next few days to discuss the forthcoming resumption of work on its Mozambique LNG mega-project (two 12.9 million tonne liquefaction trains) on the Afungi peninsula (Cabo Delgado province). In addition to a stopover in Maputo, the capital, Pouyanne\u0301 may head to Palma, in the north of Cabo Delgado province.<\/p>\n

This move should help demonstrate TotalEnergies\u2019 wish to relaunch that project, which has been made easier by the significant improvement in security in the region. After two years of total stoppage, the first relatively modest contracts for excavation and construction were awarded in December to the South African company WBHO.<\/p>\n

Since July 2021, the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the regional Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), of which South Africa is the main troop contributor, have been able to push back insurgents from self-proclaimed jihadist groups several dozen kilometres from the Afungi peninsula. This follows the global context of gas supply issues in the wake of the war in Ukraine that is pushing Western gas majors to launch new liquefaction trains as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
