Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The government is recommending that flagship airline Linhas Ae\u0301reas de Moc\u0327ambique (LAM) reduce ticket prices in a bid to attract more passengers, Noticias reports.<\/p>\n

The idea was put forward by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, during a recent visit to LAM, where he pointed out that the measure would also bolster the financial sustainability of the national air carrier.<\/p>\n

Mateus Magala gave the company\u2019s managers a month to design a price reduction plan within the framework of the reforms that the executive is introducing to underpin the financial and operational sustainability of the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cI noticed that there are many people who want to use air travel as a means of transport to various parts of Mozambique, but the prices currently charged are high, and so they choose to travel by other means,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n

Mateus Magala asked the company\u2019s managers to carry out a quick study on the number of potential passengers who would like to use LAM as a means of transport but who are prevented from doing so by the cost of tickets<\/p>\n

According to the minister, it is vital that the company makes air transport accessible to everyone, because it is no longer a luxury.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithin a month we want to see a new dynamic in the Mozambican market as a result of the restructuring of flight ticket prices,\u201d Minister Magala told the heads of LAM\u2019s Commercial Department.<\/p>\n

The minister acknowledged that the company had made some progress in recent months, as is the case with the fleet, which seems to be more stable in terms of numbers, and had been more regularly adhering to its published timetable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope this is the beginning of a new ethos at the company. LAM, in relation to the company Aeroportos de Moc\u0327ambique, is a little behind in some issues related to operations and maintenance, as well as in initiatives and proactivity. That is why it must improve its way of acting in the market, so that we can have better results,\u201d Magala added.<\/p>\n
