{"id":34753,"date":"2023-02-27T11:07:34","date_gmt":"2023-02-27T11:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/mozambican-fuel-distribution-companies-complain-of-dramatic-situation"},"modified":"2023-02-27T11:22:01","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T11:22:01","slug":"mozambican-fuel-distribution-companies-complain-of-dramatic-situation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/mozambican-fuel-distribution-companies-complain-of-dramatic-situation","title":{"rendered":"Mozambican fuel distribution companies complain of \u201cdramatic\u201d situation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican Association of Fuel Companies (AMEPETROL) calls the situation in the sector \u201cdramatic\u201d, complaining that it is buying fuels at elevated prices, but without prices at filling stations being updated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have absolute faith that the Government understands our situation, that it is supportive and will find mechanisms to ensure that companies continue to operate normally,\u201d the association\u2019s president, Michel Ussene, told Lusa.<\/p>\n<p>Ussene was reiterating warnings AMEPETROL has voiced since the beginning of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>At issue is the fact that there are no price updates at the filling stations, which are supplying fuel at below the purchase price, increasing the amount the state owes the companies.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of AMEPETROL noted that the occasional fall in the price of crude oil on the international market has not eased import costs in Mozambique, as they are cancelled out by the rise in logistics costs such as transport and insurance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking for mechanisms that neither harm the final consumer, nor the government or the companies, so that there is fuel in the entire market,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n<p>This \u201cequation\u201d, he continued, may include the reduction of taxes on petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand that the best mechanism may be to temporarily reduce the tax burden, until the international situation changes,\u201d he suggested.<\/p>\n<p>Ussene also said that there was no risk of interrupted supplies to gas stations, especially during the rainy season and with Mozambique in the path of several storms.<\/p>\n<p>A source from the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) also dismissed, in statements to Lusa, any risk of fuel supply shortages in the country, as has already happened, for example, in Malawi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\">Mozambique<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique.
