Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Six salt pans, in Machanga district, in the central Mozambican province of Sofala, have become flooded due to the Save river bursting its banks, leaving 180 workers unemployed.<\/p>\n

According to Nata\u0301lia Chivambo, administrator of Machanga district, cited in Wednesday\u2019s issue of the Beira daily \u201cDia\u0301rio de Moc\u0327ambique\u201d, the floods affected six private facilities aimed at salt production. \u201cWork was paralyzed and 180 people became unemployed\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough the situation is becoming normal, these floods affected many people. Many of them lost their jobs because the salt industries are flooded. The affected people are responsible for running their families but right now they have lost their source of income\u201d, the administrator said.<\/p>\n

Chivambo also explained that 22 schools in the district were closed due to floods. They were used to shelter flood victims, but classes resumed on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis means that 10,500 pupils have returned to school. Some health centres that also had been closed have resumed their work\u201d, she said, adding that flooded roads are now passable.<\/p>\n
