Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Regional Water Administration of the North (ARA-NORTE) has warned people to take precautions against the forecast rise in water levels as a result of continuing rainfall in river basins throughout the northern part of Mozambique.<\/p>\n

On National Road 13 (N13), a bridge collapsed due to flooding in the Namithimbua river, which is preventing circulation between Cuamba in Niassa province and Nampula, a route heavily frequented by passenger carriers as well as trucks serving the port of Nacala.<\/p>\n

Traffic between Mandimba and Meluco (Niassa) is also constrained due to the rising Rovuma river, which has already flooded the lower areas Mandimba town and the Meluluca, Joho and Lussangasse localities.<\/p>\n

The ARA-NORTE alert received by AIM on Wednesday (15-03) highlights the Licungo, Raraga and Nipiode river basins in Zambezia province, and those of the Lu\u0301rio (Mutuali), Ligonha, Melu\u0301li and Larde rivers in Nampula as being of particular concern.<\/p>\n

Special mention is also made of Congerenge in Niassa, which is traversed by the Rovuma river, and Mocuba, in Zambezia (the Licungo). Regarding the country\u2019s dams, ARA-NORTE says that those in Nampula, Metucue and Chipembe are already at 100% of their storage capacity. Other dams are close to the same level, specifically Nacala, with 97%, Mugica (73.6%) and Locomue (66%).<\/p>\n
