Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s publicly-owned electricity company, EDM, has announced that on Saturday it completed the connection to the national grid of the Urrene administrative post, in Panda district, in the southern province of Inhambane.<\/p>\n

The electrification of the Urrene post consisted of building 30 kilometres of medium voltage transmission line, from the district capital, Panda town.<\/p>\n

Five 100 kVa transformers were installed, and 150 lampposts for public lighting. Ten kilometres of low voltage line was built, and 500 new consumers were connected to the grid.<\/p>\n

This electrification cost 93 million meticais (about 1.5 million dollars, at the current exchange rate) and was entirely financed by the Mozambican state budget.<\/p>\n

Urrene is the second administrative post to be connected to the grid this year. Since 2020, 49 administrative posts have been electrified. 21 of the 26 administrative posts in Inhambane province have now been electrified.<\/p>\n

Ensuring that all the country\u2019s administrative posts are electrified is a key part of the government\u2019s drive to ensure universal access to electricity by 2030.<\/p>\n
