Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s publicly owned electricity company, EDM, needs 660 million meticais (about 10.3 million us dollars at the current exchange rate), to reconnect the electric infrastructure damaged following the passage of cyclone Freddy in Zambezia province.<\/p>\n

The Chairperson of the EDM Board of Directors, Marcelino Alberto, announced the cost in the southern province of Inhambane during a visit to monitor work on the Temane thermal power station (CTT).<\/p>\n

Cited by the Maputo daily \u201cNoticias\u201d, Alberto said repairs to the transmission lines hit by the cyclone in the Zambezia provincial capital of Quelimane will be concluded by next week.<\/p>\n

However, fixing the power lines further south, in Macuse, will take much longer due to the need to replace 150 pylons knocked down by the cyclone.<\/p>\n

Some services in Nicoadala and Namacurra districts, especially in health units, are relying on generators, while the EDM grid is not yet reconnected, said Alberto.<\/p>\n
