Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A total of 11,400 families affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy are still in accommodation centres in Mutarara district, Tete province, in central Mozambique, since their homes are still flooded or destroyed.<\/p>\n

The information was shared by Mutarara district administrator Domingos Macanjo during the fifth ordinary session of the Provincial Executive Council, which addressed matters including the damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy.<\/p>\n

Macanjo said that, despite assistance from the government and partners, more support was needed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have, above all, food needs, because the water is not going down, not draining off, especially the river Chire,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) delegate in Tete, Teresa Jeque, announced the strengthening of support for those affected by the cyclone in the two districts most affected by the weather system.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a total of 1,250 kilograms of rice for the district of Doa, 5,750 kilograms of flour for Doa and Mutarara, 2,600 kilograms of beans for the two districts, 564 litres of oil, 25 tents, the same amount for the district of Doa,\u201d he reported.<\/p>\n

In total, 111 families in the community of Nemo, in Macuacua, have been marooned by flood water for over a month following heavy rain in the region.<\/p>\n

The INGD in Gaza province has allocated two tons of various foodstuffs to victims of \u2018Freddy\u2019 in the administrative post of Macuacua, in Manjacaze district, spokesman Bonifa\u0301cio Cardoso revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in permanent contact with our district governments andwe are providing localized assistance according to daily reports,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The INGD in Gaza continues to focus its attention on the districts of Massangena and Chigubo, where communications are still constrained by flood damage to roads.<\/p>\n
