Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>More than half the approximately 180 permanent workers at Ac\u0327ucareira da Maragra [Maragra Sugar Works] in Manhic\u0327a district, Maputo province, could be made redundant in the next few days.<\/p>\n

The restructuring of the workforce, and even the possible indefinite closure of the company, follows the damage to equipment and loss of sugarcane caused by floods in February.<\/p>\n

The managing director of Ac\u0327ucareira da Maragra, Filipe Raposo, told Radio Mozambique, said that a survey of the damage to machinery was currently under way, and that an internal restructuring was being considered.<\/p>\n

Raposo said that up to 95% of the sugar cane had been lost, and that damage to equipment was estimated at around US$30 million.<\/p>\n
