Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique and Portugal intend to sign a memorandum of understanding later this year allowing Mozambique to provide manpower for various sectors of economic activity in Portugal, with the emphasis on tourism and catering.<\/p>\n

The commitment was reiterated by Portugal\u2019s Secretary of State for Labour, Miguel Fontes, at a meeting with Minister of Labour and Social Security, Margarida Adamugi Talapa, on Monday afternoon (12-04).<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Minister Talapa recalled that, in June 2022, she had held a meeting with Anto\u0301nio Costa Moura, Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal in Mozambique, who had, among other matters, expressed Portugal\u2019s interest in recruiting Mozambican workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to reiterate our interest and availability to take steps that Your Excellency deems convenient for the materialisation of this objective,\u201d Miguel Fontes said.<\/p>\n

Minister Talapa stressed Mozambique\u2019s interest in signing an MoU during the visit to Mozambique of the Portuguese Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes, later this year, within the scope of the Bilateral Summit between the two governments.<\/p>\n

Talapa took the opportunity to reiterate Mozambique\u2019s readiness to resume ties in the sector, suspended in 2019 due to the Covid pandemic.<\/p>\n

Mozambique and Portugal have a history of cooperation in the sector, having already signed a 2018 -2021 cooperation programme with Portugal\u2019s Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security in the areas of employment, professional training, labour relations, hygiene and health at work and institutional training.<\/p>\n
