Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Over the last 20 years, the Port of Maputo has invested around US$700 million in automating its operations, with a view to ensuring transparency and reliability of the services both within the country and in the SADC region more generally.<\/p>\n

In the period under review, the volume of cargo handled rose from five million tonnes in 2003 to 26.7 million in 2022, a growth of more than 500%, said Communication and Image manager at the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), Soraya Abdula.<\/p>\n

Abdula was speaking about the challenges and advances registered at the Port of Maputo over the last 20 years on Radio Mozambique\u2019s Cafe\u0301 da Manha\u0303 programme this Monday (16-04).<\/p>\n

She further noted that the Port of Maputo had over the last two decades enjoyed a favourable place within the SADC region, and also discoursed on the Maputo Port Master Plan currently underway.<\/p>\n

The MPDC spokesperson revealed that the Port of Maputo anticipates handling around 30 million tons of various cargo this year.<\/p>\n
