Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The passenger ship MV Chambo will resume service on Lake Niassa between Mozambique to Malawi during this half-year.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Chambo\u2019, capacity 100 passengers plus 10 tons of cargo, was withdrawn three years ago due to mechanical problems, and is currently undergoing repairs in Metangula, Niassa province.<\/p>\n

The resumption of the transport link between Malawi and the east coast of Mozambique will be a relief for the residents in both places, who currently use small boats for travel purposes.<\/p>\n

Every effort is being made by the Mozambican government to re-establish this link, after the Mozambican community residing in Malawi complained about the lack of transport to President Filipe Nyusi during his state visit to Malawi.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican High Commissioner to Malawi, Elias Zimba, gave assurances that the ship would resume operations, to the relief of those living in Likoma, Chizumulu and Nkhata Bay. in Malawi, as well as in Co\u0301bue\u0300 on the Mozambican side.<\/p>\n

High Commissioner Zimba says he is in constant contact with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the government of Niassa province, with the aim of bringing about the resumption of the connection.<\/p>\n

The MV Chambo was bought by the Mozambican government to facilitate the transport of people and goods between communities residing on the shores of Lake Niassa in both Mozambique and Malawi.<\/p>\n

The vessel was built in Portugal and assembled in Malawi, and is named after a fish that abounds in the waters of Lake Niassa, and is much consumed in coastal communities along the lake shores.<\/p>\n
