Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The latest cohort of 36 MozYouth interns graduated in Pemba last Tuesday, 18 April, at a ceremony with the Governor of Cabo Delgado. The Governor was joined in a ceremony by the President of the Provincial Parliament to congratulate interns sponsored by TotalEnergies, the German Development Cooperation and the Embassy of Ireland on the completion of their 6 month, paid internship placements in companies in Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

MozYouth was launched in 2018 with the goal of boosting youth employment and empowering local communities. MozYouth is operated by the MozYouth Foundation and works throughout the country to connect young women and men with opportunities in the private sector.<\/p>\n

The Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, recognised the efforts of all involved in the MozYouth initiative. He highlighted the fact that \u201cremunerated pre-professional earnings are a unique and unquestionable opportunity for any young person to start their professional career, to understand the dynamics of companies and acquire experiences about day-to-day work\u201d.<\/p>\n

Since its launch MozYouth has graduated more than 1000 young people through partnerships with over 100 companies across Mozambique. The programme focuses on training, internships and entrepreneurship and ensures that 50% of its participants are offered to women. More than half of all interns have found employment at the end of the programme.<\/p>\n

Rosa Buanamade, one of the latest group of MozYouth graduates, was hired by the company that had hosted her as soon as her internship ended. She said, \u201cWe (the graduates) believe that everything we have learned during this period will have a positive impact on society, as what we have learned will not be limited to looking for a formal job, but also to generating employment. We would like young people in Cabo Delgado to have more opportunities of this kind.\u201d<\/p>\n

The MozYouth Foundation was created by Founding Members MozParks, Hollard Group and FNB, and Partners TotalEnergies, Kenmare Resources, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and the Embassy of Ireland. The MozYouth Foundation is committed to helping the youth of Mozambique build strong, sustainable careers.<\/p>\n
