Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government\u2019s Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, this Wednesday (03-05) invited Japanese businesspeople to invest in the production of batteries for electric vehicles (EV) in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Mateus Magala was speaking at a meeting with a business delegation from Japan headed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kenji Yamada.<\/p>\n

Minister Magala pointed out that graphite mined in Cabo Delgado province is currently being exported to an American company which produces EV batteries. The Mozambican government would prefer that such batteries are produced in the country, perhaps by the Japanese.<\/p>\n

\u201cMozambique wants EV batteries to be produced here in order to respond to the electric bus import programme scheduled for later this year, but also to respond to the electric vehicle assembly project, a plant for which will be set up soon,\u201d Minister Magala explained.<\/p>\n

Japan has co-financed the rehabilitation of the Port of Nacala, which the government considers strategic for internal logistics as well as for hinterland countries.<\/p>\n

Work on the port is soon to be completed, leaving the port the most modern in the country. Investments in progress total around US$300 million.<\/p>\n
