Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of the Interior, Arse\u0301nia Massingue, on Tuesday completed the second day of her working visit to Cabo Delgado province, where she received assurances from the administrative authorities and military forces in Palma district that the security situation is calm, reads a Ministry of the Interior (MINT) press release.<\/p>\n

In a meeting with Palma District Administrator Joa\u0303o Agostinho, Minister Massingue learned that the peace in Palma was attracting residents who had fled terrorist attacks back to their areas of origin, adds the same source.<\/p>\n

According to Agostinho, returnees were already developing a variety of livelihoods, including commerce, agriculture and fishing, despite some hunger occasioned by the drought.<\/p>\n

The district official saluted the Defence and Security Forces for their part in nullifying the terrorist threat, explaining that the government was restoring the water and energy supplies and rehabilitating health centres and other administrative and social infrastructure.<\/p>\n

As a measure of the restored security environment, Agostinho cited the district\u2019s 26 schools now back in operation, along with the restoration of the civil identification service and the return to operation of a mobile clinic providing healthcare to those living in remote areas.<\/p>\n

The Minister of the Interior received similar reports from the various security forces operating in the district, who she encouraged to continue their successful anti-terrorist strategies.<\/p>\n

In Palma, the Minister of Interior visited the District Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and interacted with the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces, as well as their Rwandan partners.<\/p>\n

Arse\u0301nia Massingue has been working in Cabo Delgado province since Monday, assessing the level of implementation of the 2023 Economic and Social Plan in the areas which she administers.<\/p>\n

Her visit will cover all areas of the Ministry\u2019s competence, including policing, civil identification, migration, public safety, support for refugees and asylum seekers and criminal investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will visit the districts of Palma and Moci\u0301mboa da Praia not only to visit district commands and interact with the Armed Forces, but also to learn about the work of issuing identity cards, which is being carried out by the Civil Identification service. The population is already returning to areas recently freed from terrorism, and it is important that they all have ID cards,\u201d the minister said on her arrival in Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n
