Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Government of France has, through the World Food Programme (WFP), granted \u20ac1 million to support the organisation\u2019s nutrition emergency response in three provinces in northern Mozambique, the WFP has announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the government\u2019s national Nutritional Rehabilitation Programme, WFP delivers specialised nutritious food and necessary medical equipment to more than 300 health facilities in the three northern provinces to treat moderate acute malnutrition,\u201d the WFP note released yesterday reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe contribution will be used to provide treatment and prevention services to over 90,000 malnourished pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five suffering in Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa provinces,\u201d the note continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrance\u2019s support is timely and enables us to provide a package of preventive and treatment activities among vulnerable groups of people,\u201d declared Antonella D\u2019Aprile, WFP representative in Mozambique, quoted in the document.<\/p>\n

In Mozambique, chronic malnutrition continues to affect 38% of children under the age of five, according to 2021 data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).<\/p>\n

According to INE, distribution by province shows differences, with the northern and central zones showing prevalence at \u201cvery high\u201d levels, and Nampula province having the most serious situation.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, France has provided a total of \u20ac2.5 million in contributions to WFP activities in Mozambique.<\/p>\n
