{"id":39052,"date":"2023-05-20T11:58:05","date_gmt":"2023-05-20T11:58:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/government-priority-remains-access-to-electricity"},"modified":"2023-05-20T12:21:46","modified_gmt":"2023-05-20T12:21:46","slug":"government-priority-remains-access-to-electricity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/government-priority-remains-access-to-electricity","title":{"rendered":"Government priority remains access to electricity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi reiterated on Thursday that his government\u2019s priority in the energy sector is to expand access to electricity throughout the country, as a factor driving socio-economic development.<\/p>\n<p>Nyusi was speaking in the Mapulanguene administrative post, in Magude district, Maputo province, where he inaugurated a solar power station, under the government\u2019s \u201cEnergy for All\u201d national programme (PRONAE).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe repeat that the priority of my government is the continual expansion of access to electricity throughout the country, alongside the construction of transport, irrigation and water supply infrastructures\u201d, said Nyusi.<\/p>\n<p>The first step in the energy programme was to increase electricity supply capacity by 600 megawatts, by the end of Nyusi\u2019s current term of office in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>There would be a resort to a variety of power generation sources, to meet the growing needs for electricity posed by industrialization and urbanization. The government hoped to guarantee \u201ca sustainable energy balance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that, in 2022, there were 470,889 new domestic electricity connections.
