Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>As part of a strategy to attract investment and stimulate the region\u2019s socio-economic and tourist development, the northern part of Inhambane province could be declared a Tourism Special Economic Zone.<\/p>\n

The Tourism Special Economic Zone, combining beach tourism and nature conservation, would cover the districts of Vilankulo, Inhassoro, Govuro, Massinga and Mabote.<\/p>\n

The idea was taken up by the Provincial Executive Council of Inhambane, after its presentation by the Vilankulo district government in partnership with Forum Senson Investimentos, an institution dedicated to supporting investment in the domestic market.<\/p>\n

At the moment, and allied to the project, an initiative called \u2018Vilankulo 21, Tourism Capital of Southern Africa 2023-2035\u2019 is underway.<\/p>\n

According to the spokesman for the Provincial Executive Council of Inhambane, Sima\u0303o Mavimbe, quoted o by \u2018Noticias\u2019, the intention behind the tourism special economic zone is to create conditions for attracting investments to the Mapinhane-Pafuri corridor, which includes part of Vilankulo district, interconnecting the national parks of Zinave in Mabote and Banhine and Limpopo in the southern province of Gaza.<\/p>\n

In this context, he referenced the need to address the disorderly occupation of land by individuals practicing agriculture in areas suitable for tourism, which discourages investment and hinders the development of the sector.<\/p>\n

The province of Inhambane has great tourism potential and investment opportunities along its 700 kilometres of coastline, with beaches lapped by crystalline waters, great scenic beauty and diversity of marine and terrestrial flora and fauna.<\/p>\n

It also has a rich historical and cultural heritage, with the archaeological sites of Chibuene and Manyikeni in Vilankulo a highlight.<\/p>\n
