Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>One in four births take place outside a health facility in Mozambique, reveals a report released in Maputo on Thursday by the National Institute of Health\u2019s Vital Events and Causes of Death Surveillance System. The report covers the period 2019 to 2020.<\/p>\n

The national director of Surveys and Observation at the INS, Ivalda Macicame, explained that the highest number of cases is registered in the central and northern regions of Mozambique, especially the provinces of Zambe\u0301zia and Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe system shows that one in four births continue to take place outside a health facility in Mozambique, with the main emphasis on the provinces of Cabo Delgado and Zambe\u0301zia,\u201d she said, quoted by AIM.<\/p>\n

With regard to deaths, Macicame said that three out of four deaths in Mozambique also occur outside health facilities, particularly in the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambe\u0301zia and Inhambane, where, according to the source, more than 80% of deaths occur in the community.<\/p>\n

These data \u201cshow the importance of having a community-based system that can capture not only vital events, but other health events and beyond\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of civil registration of births and deaths captured by this system, it was found that only 30% of children were registered at a civil registry office before their first birthday, and only 16% of deaths identified were registered after burial,\u201d Macicame said.<\/p>\n
